What to Expect
-
Visit your GP, discuss your symptoms and request a referral to the Belfast Adult ADHD Clinic.
We usually require a referral from your GP, which can be made by phone, email or post.
-
Once we receive your referral, we will contact you and offer an appointment at your convenience.
You will be asked to complete some assessment forms before you are seen. You may also be asked to get some forms completed by your parents and partner.
-
Arrive at our accessible clinic with free onsite parking for your initial appointment where you will be asked for your psychiatric and developmental history.
You will also be asked about your education and employment history. You will need to go through psychometric assessments.
-
Meet with your Consultant Psychiatrist.
Your consultation will be of approximately 50 minutes duration. During this time, you can, in confidence, discuss your current symptoms with your consultant, who will then explore relevant background information useful in understanding your current difficulties. Following this thorough assessment, a diagnosis and individual treatment plan will be discussed. Sometimes further investigations are required e.g. blood testing, brain imaging etc. but if required this will be discussed in advance.
-
Following your consultation, a letter will be sent to your GP.
If a follow up appointment is required with your private consultant psychiatrist, this will be decided before you leave.
-
Continuation of treatment.
